Contact: Pat Washington, President November 28, 2006 Democratic Women’s Club Elects Officers and Launches 2007 Training SeriesSan Diego, CA. The 2007-2008 officer installation for the San Diego Democratic Women’s Club (SDDWC) was held recently in the community room of the City Heights Library. With an increasingly diverse and growing membership, the SDDWC strives to promote the goals and ideals of the Democratic Party with particular attention to increasing women’s political participation at all levels of elected and appointed office. The officer installation ceremony was conducted by Assemblymember-Elect Mary Salas. Salas, who was recently elected to represent the 79th Assembly district in the California state legislature, has a long history of advocacy and community engagement. Salas was raised in the 79th Assembly District. Long before her involvement in electoral politics, Salas served on various Boards and Commissions that directly impacted the lives of her constituents. She has mentored young girls to stay in school and pursue a college education, to strengthen their leadership skills, and to work to improve their communities. Most recently, she launched a mentorship project in conjunction with the American Association of University Women and the Women’s Resource Center. Officers of the San Diego Democratic Women’s Club for the 2007-2008 are: President Pat Washington, PhD; Vice President Gina Pitti; Secretary Maggie Allington, PhD; Treasurer Bea Fernandez; Parliamentarian, Pamela Perkins. The San Diego Democratic Women’s Club meets the fourth Saturday of each month from 10:00am til Noon at the City Heights Library, 3795 Fairmount Avenue. Meetings are open to the public. The January 2007 meeting will include a panel discussion on “Building the Infrastructure for a Successful Campaign” and will feature elected leaders whose successful campaigns for elected office may serve as models for prospective 2008 candidates.
